About the LSAFHS

The Little Sisters of the Assumption Family Health Service is a non-profit organization that has worked with the families of East Harlem for over 46 years, helping them address the many dimensions of family health - physical, emotional, educational, and spiritual.

We offer a wide range of health care and social services, education, advocacy, and crisis counseling to hundreds of the most vulnerable families in our community. Our services are offered in English and Spanish, both in homes and at our center. No family or individual is ever turned away because of an inability to pay.

Our work is based upon a profound belief in the strength of families, even when their problems seem overwhelming. We have seen this belief vindicated time and time again in the remarkable achievements of individuals and families with whom we have worked.

The LSAFHS is staffed by about fifty workers from both religious and lay backgrounds. Currently, Sisters comprise approximately half of the staff and represent a variety of orders, with the remaining staff consisting of professionals and volunteers working in a variety of fields.

We recently finished construction on and have moved into our new building, which has space for all of our programs, a second floor outdoor play area for the nursery, and a completely separate space for the Thrift Store.
