The New Friends Committee is a group of young professionals,
led by energizing board member Marianne Maguire, who raise funds
for the Family Life Program through various social events aimed
at a new generation of “friends” of the Little Sisters
of the Assumption Family Health Service.
As a New Friend, you can offer your time to the
extent that you are able. We know that young people working in the
city are busy, so all we ask is that you have a genuine interest
in assisting in some way to help make our New Friends fundraising
events fun and successful.
You can offer your assistance in a variety of ways
-- from finding raffle or silent auction items to locating a viable
space for an event, from helping to publicize the event to designing
or printing invitations. Simply offering to
bring your friends to an event is a valuable contribution.
In
the future, we may have opportunities for New Friends to volunteer
their time in a more direct service capacity. For instance: taking
a group on an outing or becoming a mentor. We will be announcing
other New Friends’ activities and opportunities as they develop.

672-0434 Time Commitment: Typically, we meet as a committee
to plan two events a year - usually one in the spring, and one in
the fall. Meetings become more frequent closer to the date of the
event.
Regular meeting attendance is not mandatory to
be considered a New Friend. You may find your own way to support
the New Friends committee, which could be as simple as encouraging
a group of your friends to attend the event.
How are the funds raised from New Friends events used by the Family
Life Program?
Our families are able to enjoy special
trips and events for children and adults. Some of the outings
include trips to Bear Mountain, Rye Playland, Sesame Place, Roosevelt
Park, the Bronx Zoo, Lake Welsh, Great Adventure, and Liberty Science
Center. We also take families to Yankees and Mets games, and trips
to the country and to the beach.
Last summer, we had the most outings ever for families
-- 44 trips, which served over 1,000 community members. Typically,
the funds raised from New Friends’ events have covered well
over half the costs of the entire summer trips program.
