Volunteers are essential to Little Sisters of the Assumption
Family Health Service. They offer vital support to every
program at the
agency, and make a significant contribution to the families
we serve. The agency could not function the way that it does
without
volunteers.
Some volunteers belong to the Little Sisters of the Assumption
Lay Volunteer Program (Family Lifeline Volunteers) or other full-time
volunteer programs. Other volunteers are engaged by the Family
Health Service from the local and surrounding neighborhoods of
New York City.
Volunteers offer their skills, experience
and caring to assist our families. Some of the current volunteer
positions include tutoring,
child care assistance, thrift shop help, ESL teacher’s aid,
data entry clerk, and nursery assistant. These are just a few of
the positions that are available (see volunteer position listing).
We ask volunteers to make a six-month time commitment, especially
if they are working directly with the families we serve. We do
have other volunteer positions that may not require an ongoing
commitment, such as one-time volunteer opportunities (for instance,
volunteering to help at our holiday parties, or assisting on
a summer trip or on a particular project).
It is always helpful for volunteers to be open and flexible in
approaching their volunteer assignment. While we try to match
the volunteer’s interests and skills to their volunteer
assignment, we know that there is not always a perfect fit. The
most valued asset of any volunteer is the willingness to do what
is needed. This is truly invaluable, and is key to having a successful
volunteer experience.
We are truly grateful for the presence of our volunteers.

Part Time and Full time LSAFHS Volunteer
Opportunities
Volunteers at the LSAFHS are considered either
part-time or full-time volunteers. Click

Part-time volunteers are typically
from the New York City/metro areas, and offer their service from
2 to 20+ hours per week in a variety of capacities, including
teaching adult education programs, working with children in the
Toddler
Nursery, tutoring and mentoring, helping out at our thrift
store,
to name just a few of the opportunities. If
you are interested in part-time volunteer opportunities, please
contact Trish Gough, LSAFHS Volunteer Director, at (646) 672-0434.
Full-time volunteers work 37.5
hours per week and come to us mostly from faith-based volunteer
service programs, such as Family
Lifeline Volunteer Program (a
ministry of the Little Sisters of the Assumption congregation).
These volunteers offer their service full-time for six months to
a year or more, and live in a community of volunteers
in housing provided by their volunteer program. They work in a
paraprofessional
capacity in every program that we offer
at the agency. These volunteers are from states all accross the
U.S. (This year from Maryland, Virginia, Minnesota, and California)
and from many countries
all over the
world, including Germany, France, Italy, and Kenya.
